Albania

Many people wonder what Albania is like as a tourist country? And besides the fact that the country is incredibly beautiful with its high mountains and fantastic beaches, the Albanians are very hospitable and accommodating. Albanians are proud of their country and know that they have a fantastic tourist destination that they love to share and talk about. You notice that Albania is undergoing great development and the Albanians are careful to show their best side and help you with everything they can.

Safe

Albania is a safe country. As it is a relatively new destination, many people wonder what to expect. Here you can feel safe. "Besa" is an old code of honor which means that Albanians do everything they can to protect and help guests and friends. They are also very concerned about all the tourists who come to visit their country. The country is also tolerant. Here both Muslims and Christians live side by side with great respect for each other. On the beach, you don't have to be afraid that someone will come and take the stuff as soon as you look away - even if you have to take care.

Currency

Lek (ALL).

But Euros are also viable in some places. In Saranda there are ATMs where you can use VISA and Mastercard. You can also pay with euros, but then get change back in LEK (it is therefore recommended to pay with LEK). The restaurants in Saranda do not accept payment by card. There are several exchange offices in Saranda. Albania is very much a cash society.

Wallet friendly

Prices are very cheap in Albania and they are actually some of the lowest around the Mediterranean. Here you can enjoy both breakfast, lunch and dinner outside if you want without being ruined. The local beer is called Tirana and costs around ten kroner at the beach bars, and there are many good wines to choose from. In Albania and Saranda, it is cheap to go to a restaurant. A main course often costs a maximum of 1000 lek, which corresponds to around 8 Euro.

The food

The food in Albania is very good! The food culture has been influenced by both Italy and Greece and on the coast a lot of food from the sea is served. The hinterland offers genuine Albanian food that can be harder to find in the tourist towns and the flavors are amazing! Here you can eat slow-cooked or home-made sausages that taste wonderful. Regardless, you will be served fantastic food.

A recommendation is to download the Tripadvisor app to be able to choose a restaurant based on reviews from other guests.
